Win a place in the End Of Nations beta

Trion Worlds and Petroglyph are offering a place on the beta for hotly anticipated RTS, End Of Nations, but accomplished poets need only apply…

The festive edition of the End Of Nations ‘Warfront’ video series is offering up a place on the beta for anyone who can string together a half decent poem. You’ve got until 1st January 2012 to submit your entry, and the winner will get straight on the forthcoming beta, as well as have their labour of love feature on the next Warfront video.

Elsehwere in this edition of Warfront the ‘Company’ gameplay mechanic is introduced. As Cole Marshall explains, the various ‘companies’ in the game allow you to customise your forces to suit your needs.

“Pick your class, units and abilities to fit your style of gameplay,” explains a santa-hatted Cole Marshall. “You can use your companies to co-ordinate strategies and tactics with other players to create the perect armoury.”

Using the latest cuts of in-game footage Marshall goes on to demonstrate two first tier companies. The first provides enough firepower to take on most armies, but lacking anti-aircraft units and the second, designed for support, is particularly effective against aircraft, buildings and the ability to detect stealth units.

We’re expecting great things from End Of Nations – check out the video and see what you think…

Cafe World Signature Dish feature coming soon [Video]

While sometimes it may seem like Cafe World is more about asking your friends for items than actually cooking, a new feature will soon be launching in the game called "Signature Dish," which will apparently put a focus back on cooking. To put it simply, this feature will allow you to combine various ingredients to create your own dishes. These dishes can then be cooked and mastered in your cafe.

Along with this new feature will come a seven-part goal series which will see us building something called the "DishMaster." This DishMaster will give us access to a Taste Lab where we'll be able to combine our ingredients. Each dish starts out with Base Ingredients, and can then be spruced up using meats, herbs, spices or even side dishes. Two base ingredients, for example, may be Spaghetti or White Rice.

Once this feature launches, a new "Taste Lab" section will be available in you cookbook. It looks like we'll be able to create just four signature dishes to start, with additional recipe slots being unlocked with Cafe Cash. When creating dishes, we'll use one of each ingredient to create it, with ingredients coming from another new feature: Farmer Fred's Ingredient Marketplace. Some ingredients go for Cafe Cash, while others cost varying amount of coins. Each particular ingredient updates the stats of your dish; that is, if you use Beef in your recipe, it will automatically gain six hours of cooking time, while Pork adds just four hours. Each ingredient also adds different amount of Cafe Points and Servings to your final product.

Again, this Signature Dish feature is still listed as "coming soon," but it does give those players who like mastering dishes something to be very excited about. We'll make sure to bring you a complete look at these DishMaster goals and the Signature Dish feature when it fully launches in the game, but for now, check out the trailer below for more of a sneak peek.

Are you excited about the upcoming Signature Dish feature in Cafe World, or does it add an extra layer of complexity to the game that it doesn't need? Sound off in the comments.

Pioneer Trail Ghost Town feature coming soon [Video]

Way back in January, Pioneer Trail players (then FrontierVille) were able to take a survey detailing potential new themes for the game. One of those themes just so happened to be "Ghost Town." While it may now be October, it looks like that theme is finally coming around, and will likely comprise the greatest portion of the game's Halloween event this month. While we haven't received much official news in text, Zynga has released a preview trailer for this Ghost Town theme, which it's calling a "Mega-Feature!"

The trailer [embedded below] shows us that the Ghost Town will be more than just an item theme in the game's store; it will apparently be a location we can visit and complete tasks in. The story of Ghost Town sees the evil Mayor Witherwood placing a curse on the town, which has apparently resulted in some... unusual animals and crops being developed. There looks to be some sort of zombie corn with glowing pink eyes, a broken clock tower, Frankenstein's Monster trees, tombstones a plenty (including what looks to be an Indian Burial Ground and ghost frogs) and even floating, zombie / ghost chickens!

We're told that we'll use "your Sharpshooter, Mad Scientist and Shaman" in tasks that resemble those out on the Pioneer Trail map proper. If I'm making an educated guess, it's likely that these positions will be filled by friends, with your Sharpshooter being able to go out and hunt undead bears and other monsters to earn Hides, the mad scientist can "tackle" man-eating plants for Potions, and the Shaman will seek out ghosts and bless them for Spirits. Your own character can also complete tasks, rewarding you with Charms (from rocks, shrubs and buildings). You'll be able to use the hides, potions and spirits to help the locals in Ghost Town, with the ultimate goal being to earn enough keys to open the Mayor's Mansion and bring him to justice.

As for the Charms, you'll use those to earn special, exclusive prizes like decorations along the way. The more Charms you collect, the more prizes you'll apparently wind up with, giving you incentive to play around in Ghost Town for days and even weeks after the feature launches. Unfortunately, we just don't know when that will be.

Either way, we'll make sure to keep track of all things Ghost Town in the Pioneer Trail, and will let you know when you can embark on this spooky adventure in your own game, so keep checking back!

Are you excited to travel to Ghost Town in Pioneer Trail? What sorts of prizes are you hoping to earn along the way? Sound off in the comments.
